Notary 101 Series on TikTok

Where New Notaries Should Start and Why Feeling Overwhelmed Is Normal

By Rebeca Caldero, Notary Public, State of Oklahoma Thursday, February 19, 2026

If you follow me on TikTok, Facebook, or Instagram, this week’s notary education series was inspired by something I see often: new notaries who are excited to begin, yet unsure where to start or who to trust for accurate information.

The truth is, every notary’s first and most reliable resource is their Secretary of State’s website. Each state provides a notary handbook, laws, approved services, fee schedules, and advertising rules – free and written specifically for the notaries commissioned in that state. Before social media advice or paid programs, this is where clarity begins.

It’s also true that much of this same information can be found elsewhere, sometimes packaged, restricted, or sold. That isn’t meant as criticism, but as a reminder that understanding your role as a notary should never feel inaccessible. Education matters, and mentorship has value, but no notary should feel discouraged or left behind for not knowing what is already publicly available.

I pride myself on creating content that educates, empowers, and helps notaries succeed because there is room for everyone in this profession. We all started in the same place: NEW. Learning. Figuring it out.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or questioning your path, remember this: everyone’s journey is different. Difficulty does not mean you don’t belong. Sometimes what feels like a roadblock is actually redirection guiding you toward deeper understanding and long-term success.

Start with your state laws. Grow at your pace. You’re exactly where you need to be.
